A new study of data from the Voyager 2 flyby of Uranus in 1986 suggests that Uranus has a really weird magnetic field that flickers "off" and "on" like a light bulb that is about to burn out. This effect is caused by the discrepancy between Uranus' rotational axis and the orientation of its magnetosphere, which causes the magnetic lines to get stressed and occasionally break. Scientists would like to send a new mission to Uranus, and maybe Neptune too, so that they can study the magnetic fields of the outer planets in our solar system.
