Mаnу families tеnd tо hаvе Sunday lunсhеѕ in оrdеr tо spend timе with еасh оthеr. If уоur fаmilу livеѕ еlѕеwhеrе frоm you thеn make a big fаmilу lunсh аmоng уоurѕеlvеѕ. Get one реrѕоn to bake a саkе, аnоthеr реrѕоn tо сооk, аnоthеr tо prepare thе dining tаblе аnd another to аttеnd tо thе entertainment. Aftеrwаrdѕ уоu can gather еvеrуоnе in thе lоungе, get соmfоrtаblе on thе lоungе ѕuitе аnd ѕtаrt chatting.  

If you ѕtill bеliеvе thаt уоu won't have timе fоr family thеn mаkе Sаturdау аftеrnооn оr Sunday tеа timе уоur quality timе. It may bе juѕt a соuрlе оf hоurѕ but уоu mау end uр lеаrning ѕо much аbоut еасh оthеr.

Wоrk iѕ ѕоmеthing that уоu dо tо ѕuрроrt уоur fаmilу аnd ѕhоuldn't bе thought оf ѕоmеthing thаt hаѕ nоthing tо do with fаmilу. Evening timе ѕhоuld bе thе timе when уоu bаlаnсе оut a lоng day оf wоrk with уоur family.

Ouch, that hits a nerve. I am a workaholic, and I have no life most of the time. I tend to take on too much work, and then I end up working until 4 or 5 in the morning. The only family time I have is during dinner, and I make it a point of spending an hour away from work after dinner, but other than that I pretty much work and sleep.

It's sad that family life has gone so far away for many people nowadays. The biggest problem for many is that they overspend and then they have to work real hard to pay off the credit cards, so there is no time to relax or to spend time with the family.

I envy the old days in some ways, where families were always together. They worked together on the land, the mother stayed home and took care of the kids, baked bread from scratch, did the canning and knitted the sweaters. Yeah I'm very old fashioned in my thinking but I really feel that those times were better. Now we don't have time for anything anymore, and it takes a toll on the family. Additionally, there is far more stress than there used to be.

I heard astronauts have this problem, or at least they used to. They'd spend most of the week traveling, visiting contractors, training and stuff and about the only time they got family time was during the weekends. And that was a major reason that the divorce rate was so atrocious and some of them even had problems in their relationships with their kids.

That's why I think it's best to give any job that requires a lot of traveling or otherwise might eat into the work/life balance to people who are single with no kids. Another option would be to allow employees to work from home in cases where it isn't absolutely essential for the work to be done on site. This of course comes with the understanding that employees will have to figure out a way to cope with distractions like kids and visits from nosy neighbors so they can get the work done. There may be some merit in having a separate home office where you can lock the door and refuse to respond to anything that isn't an emergency, and of course you'll have to discipline the kids if they pretend that there is an emergency when there isn't. But at least you won't have commute time cutting into your private life.

There are many jobs that require to be away from home for extended periods of time, and I agree with RocketRacoon that at least some of those jobs should be done by people who are single. Especially families with kids can suffer. Not only miss the kids a parent for long periods of time, but the remaining parent has to take care of the kids alone, and it is a two person job.

I'm thinking here about entertainers (singers on tour for example), truck drivers, sports people, astronauts (especially the people in the international space station), sales people who cover large areas, and many more, and even cooks, who usually work when everyone is home, like weekends and nights.

I think though that nowadays the distance and time away from one another can be filled in a little with modern technology such as video skype, wechat, and other similar applications. Of course it's not the same and there is the physical contact that is lacking.

There appear to be many jobs that are not good for a balance between work and family life. Even unskilled workers at places such as walmart or big factories, any place that runs 24 / 7, someone out there is working night shifts and sleeps in the day time when the family is awake.
