Not literally crowded, but there seems to be a space race to Mars nowadays.

SpaceX hopes to land on Mars as early as 2020. That date has changed a few times, at one point it was 2018, then it was 2024, but overall, Elon Musk is staying within that range with his predictions, and we all know that SpaceX has ambition.

China hopes to land its first space probe on Mars around the year 2020, according to the chief of the National Space Administration in Bejing. China also plans to go to Jupiter and its moons, but Mars will be first.

NASA is also planning on paying the red planet a visit. Their plan is to get there by the year 2030.

There is also the ExoMars mission, which is a collaboration between ESA (European Space Agency) and Roscosmos, the Russian Federal Space Agency. The plan here is also to reach March by the year 2020.

MarsOne sees its adventure happening somewhere around 2024, maybe 2026.

Meanwhile, the United Arab Emirates are also planning a Mars landing somewhere between 2018 and 2020.

It sure sounds like Mars is going to see some action, and all within the next 10 years. Excited yet?

Yeah, it's exciting. Seriously, not all of the ventures you mentioned will make it, but it's like throwing cooked spaghetti at the wall. Some of it is going to stick even if not all of it does. And I figure that the ones that take it seriously instead of just getting involved because it's "cool" will have the best chance to succeed.

I think that's a good thing. What a lot of people don't realize is that you could move half the human population to Mars with everything they need to survive and Mars wouldn't really be crowded. And Earth would be less crowded. I think that would really solve a lot of problems just because the ones with the best chance of surviving on Mars will realize that you don't accomplish anything positive and constructive by blowing each other up. So if Mars is "popular," that's awesome because it gives people something other than the dumb shit stuff that goes on here on Earth something to think about.
